Six steps to help you start your evaluations

Are you looking to use your data more effectively, but don’t know where to start?

We’ve created a quick introduction guide to our Six Step Evaluation Process. The process is designed to help you consistently identify, collect and report the impacts of your activities.

1. Identify outcomes

Measure what matters
It all starts here. When it comes to evaluation, it’s important to measure the things that will help you make decisions. A great way to measure what matters is to identify your outcomes against your strategic goals. Establishing your outcomes early will set your foundation to consistently measure the impacts of your activities throughout time.

In this short video, Client Manager Laura Doyle, explains the Outcomes Framework

2. Design surveys

Ask the right questions
The best measurement is about consistency. When you ask the right questions, you can monitor and compare the different outcomes created by all your activities. How do you know what questions to ask? You don’t have to reinvent the wheel – using the Culture Counts Evaluation Platform you can choose from questions that have been researched, tested, and speak directly to the outcomes you identified in Step 1. An evaluation plan is a great tool to help you get started, which you can download via the button below. Read our survey design tips >

3. Collect responses

Collect the right data
You are now ready to collect meaningful and consistent feedback about the change your activity makes. Using the Culture Counts Survey Platform you can distribute your survey to your targeted audience with an online link (including QR codes), intercept interview or a display tablet. Download our best-practise data collection tips cheat sheet >

4. Report results

Understand and share your results
You’ve collected your feedback, but how do you make sense of it? One of the best ways to turn raw data into actionable information is to use charts. Visually presenting your data is a great way to analyse your learnings and showcase your achievements. Download our reporting tips cheat sheet >

5. Apply context

Gain deeper insights
You’ve reported the results of your activities, but how does it fit within the bigger picture? What is your impact? Highlight the benefit of outcomes by looking at your other evaluations – create your own dataset to compare your outcomes across time, evaluations, and industries. View an example report comparing outcomes >

6. Make change

Use data to make evidence-based decisions
You’ve identified, measured, and analysed the impact of your activities and are ready for this big moment. Using your data insights and learnings from your evaluations, you are now ready to effectively implement changes to better improve your outcomes and grow your impact.
